Suzuki Grand Vitara II – Complete Off-Road Build at Szekla4x4

The Suzuki Grand Vitara II is a vehicle that has been very popular among light and medium off-road enthusiasts for many years. Its solid construction, 4x4 drivetrain, and relatively compact dimensions make it perfect both for forest roads and overlanding adventures.

One example of the Grand Vitara II arrived at our Szekla4x4 workshop. The owner wanted to prepare the vehicle for night trips, camping, and more demanding off-road routes. We decided on a comprehensive upgrade including LED lighting, winch installation, a control panel setup, and a roof rack installation.

The final result is a vehicle ready for real off-road adventures.

Roof Rack – The Base for Expedition Equipment

The first element added to the build was a solid roof rack:

A roof rack is one of the most important components in an expedition vehicle. It allows you to mount additional equipment, carry gear, and install accessories such as extra lighting or even a rooftop tent.

In this Grand Vitara, the rack also serves as a mounting platform for additional work lights.

Strands LED Lighting – Maximum Visibility Off-Road

When driving off-road after dark, proper lighting is crucial for both safety and driver comfort. In this project we used lighting from the renowned brand Strands Lighting Division.

Strands Siberia XP SR LED Bar

At the front of the roof rack we installed a powerful LED light bar:

The Strands Siberia XP SR light bar provides a very wide and long beam pattern, making it perfect for night driving on forest roads, gravel tracks, and demanding off-road trails.

Modern LED optics and high output significantly improve visibility and safety during night driving.

Rear Work Light

A work light was installed on the rear section of the roof rack:

This type of lighting is extremely useful when maneuvering in the dark, reversing off-road, or working around the vehicle during camping.

Side Work Light

Additionally, a side-mounted work light was installed on the roof rack:

The wide flood beam effectively illuminates the area next to the vehicle, which is especially useful when setting up camp, cooking, or organizing equipment during an expedition.

Lighting Control Panel – Voswitch UV120

To conveniently control all additional electrical accessories, we installed a programmable switch panel:

The Voswitch UV120 allows control of up to 12 electrical circuits from a single panel. This allows the driver to easily manage lighting and other accessories without installing multiple individual switches.

This solution significantly improves interior ergonomics and keeps the electrical installation organized in an off-road vehicle.

Winch Installation in the Suzuki Grand Vitara II

When driving off-road, a winch is one of the most important pieces of equipment. For this Grand Vitara we installed a solid recovery setup.

Winch Mounting Plate

The base of the installation was a dedicated mounting plate:

More 4x4 X-PRO 13000 lbs Winch

We mounted the following winch on the plate:

With a pulling capacity of 13000 lbs and a synthetic rope, this winch provides strong recovery capability even in deep mud or steep terrain.

Smart License Plate Relocation Mount

During the winch installation we also used a practical solution:

The hinged license plate mount allows easy access to the winch while maintaining a clean and aesthetic look of the vehicle’s front end.

Battery Disconnect Switch – Electrical Safety

In vehicles equipped with additional electrical accessories, protecting the electrical system is extremely important. In this Grand Vitara we installed a heavy-duty battery disconnect switch:

The high-capacity disconnect switch allows quick power cut-off in emergency situations and protects the electrical system during servicing.

Suzuki Grand Vitara II Ready for Expeditions

After completing all modifications, the Suzuki Grand Vitara II gained a completely new character. The vehicle is now ready for:
